Mahina Fischer
Born on the island of Oahu, Mahina was raised by a single mother who did her best to make ends meet every month. In an effort to find a cheaper cost of living, Mahina and her mother moved to the Pacific Northwest when Mahina was young. "There wasn't a lot of focus on healthy living or what it means to have a healthy lifestyle" she recalls. "We bought food that was cheap like Top Ramen or ground beef. I grew up on the Standard American Diet and was a huge meat and potato lover. Back then I thought organic meant weird and people who were vegetarians were crazy. I didn't give much thought towards my health. I was naturally pretty fit and my family's focus was geared towards me being successful financially."
It wasn't until after high school that Mahina started learning about diet and its impact on the body. "I had an aunt who was battling cancer at the time. I knew how terrible chemotherapy made her feel and learned that there are doctors who fight cancer in holistic ways without the use of chemo and radiation. The idea of a holistic approach immediately resonated with me. I became passionate in learning more about ways of life that weren't 'mainstream'. It opened my eyes to a completely different way of living."
At the age of three, Mahina declared she had "Shocking Legs". Her family had taken her to a handful of different doctors to figure out what was causing the pain in her legs. None of them seemed to know what the problem was, a few of them chalking it up to growing pains. The pain that occurred randomly continued even after she stopped growing. "Once I cleaned up my diet, I noticed the pain stopped. If I had a 'cheat' day, I would notice the pain flare up again. My body was obviously speaking to me and it became overwhelmingly evident that nutrition is important."
In the years to come, Mahina continued down a path that she would call "following your highest excitement". Certifications and degrees didn't appeal to her. Instead she travelled, spent time in nature, and met people from all walks of life. In doing so, she shared her knowledge with those around her. Mahina was able to completely reverse diabetes in a close friend without the use of prescriptions. She has also helped people manage their anxiety and depression, helping them get off their mood stabilizing medications. Others have learned how to overcome addictions to drugs and alcohol through her guidance.
"I believe that every individual is an incredible being and collectively, anything can be achieved. I am so blessed to get to work in a community of like-minded people where we can all work together towards a healthier, happier future."
